Veruca Salt – "Volcano Girls" (1997)

I told you about the Seether before
You know, the one that's neither or nor
Well, here's another clue if you please
The Seether's Louise

If those lines sound vaguely familiar, they should.  They're a play on these famous lines from the Beatles' "Glass Onion":

I told you about the walrus and me, man
You know that we're as close as can be, man
Well, here's another clue for you all
The walrus was Paul

How about another Beatles reference?  The 1997 album that "Volcano Girls" is on is titled Eight Arms to Hold You, which was the working title for the Beatles film that was eventually released as Help!.

Veruca Salt was a selfish little brat who found one of the golden tickets in Roald Dahl's children's masterpiece, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory:

Veruca Salt is also an alternative rock band that consists of two supercute girls and two guys.

The supercute girls are Nina Gordon and Louise Post – the "Louise" who is mentioned in the lyrics quoted above – both of whom play guitar and sing.  The two guys are . . . hell, who cares about the two guys?  (Not me!)

Louise Post and Nina Gordon
"Seether" was the title of Veruca Salt's first single, and it made it to #8 on the Billboard "Modern Rock Tracks" chart in 1994.  (There's a South African rock band named Seether that named itself after the Veruca Salt song.)

Nina Gordon
In 1997, "Volcano Girls" also made it to #8 on the "Modern Rock tracks" chart.

I can't end this post without mentioning the name of the group's 1996 EP: Blow It Out Your Ass, It's Veruca Salt.

Louise Parks
Here's the music video for "Volcano Girls," which features Nina Gordon (the supercute blonde) and Louise Post (the supercute brunette) going up and down on bungee cords:
